Community College of Allegheny County has a program for seniors who are
65+ years old and residents of Allegheny Co. Qualified residents may
attend classes for almost free. A very small activity fee is all that
you pay per course. You may take up to 2 courses per semester for either
a grade ( must follow all course requirements) or as an audit ( no grade
given...class taken for knowledge but course requirements don't apply,
student has freedom!) This is a terrific benefit and many seniors enjoy
this program.

Westmoreland Arts and Heritage Festival at Twin Lakes Park, Greensburg,
PA, from July 1-4, 2010.
The East Suburban Artists League (ESAL)
will be hosting informal en plein air painting sessions in various
Murrysville parks on the second Thursdays of the month, except for
August, when we will paint at the
Murrysville Community Park (MCP) wetlands on Community Day (Saturday).
The en plein air schedule is as follows:
-
May 13 - Bear Hollow Park - Woodlands
and streams in the Spring.
-
June 10 - MCP wetlands area - has
sand path around wetlands, adjacent stream, fields and farm buildings. A
restored Sears Craftsman house is nearby.
-
July 8 - Townsend Park pond pavilion
area, wooded trails nearby.
-
August 14 (Saturday) - Community Day,
MCP wetlands area.
-
September 9 - Townsend Park pond
pavilion area, wooded trails nearby.
-
October 14 - Bear Hollow Park - Fall
Colors Grand Finale.
A morning en plein air session will
start around 9 AM, and an afternoon session starting around 1 PM. Bring
a picnic lunch to enjoy in the pavilion. A person could choose to paint
in the morning and/or afternoon
sessions as they wish. The sessions are informal with no fees or
registration involved. Photographers are encouraged to join the Painters
in the Parks.
All selected park locations offer a variety of scenery for painting,
port-a-johns, picnic pavilions, and easy walking access from parking
areas. The parks are quite different from each other.
In November 2010, paintings by adults of Murrysville's parks will be
displayed on ESAL's screens in the Murrysville Community Library. In
December 2010, paintings by students of Murrysville's parks will be
displayed. Space is limited.
