September Meeting

The next meeting of the Penn Art Association will be September 14, 2010 at 7:30 pm at the Penn Hills Senior Center.

Meeting Information

Penn Art Association meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month from September through May. Meetings start at 7:30 pm and are held in the cafeteria at Penn Hill Senior Services Center (147 Jefferson Road, Just off Rodi and Universal Roads in Penn Hills). Meetings are open and free to the public.

Speaker:

Our speaker for Sept meeting is Peggi Habets. She will show how she creates expressive, contemporary watercolor portraits with a slide presentation and painting demonstration.

Peggi Habets is an award-winning watercolor and oil portrait artist. Her studio is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but she works with clients around the country. Her life-long interest in art and a 15-year career in graphic design and illustration have all led to her current career as a portrait painter. She was nominated as Pittsburgh Center for the Arts "Emerging Artist of the Year 2008" and her work has been included in "Best of America: Watercolor Artists", Watercolor Magic magazine, Palette magazine, and the Portrait Society of America's The Art of The Portrait magazine.

“Although my portraits capture the likeness of the person or pet I'm painting, I don't attempt to create portraits that look like photographs. Instead, I let the personality and characteristics of the subject I'm painting guide my decisions. I bring my own style and ideas to the paper using color, brushstroke and composition to create mood and emotion. My greatest reward is to complete a portrait that captures not only the likeness of the person or animal, but more importantly, their unique personality.”
